Love this: “Gratitude…for the fact we are alive at the same point in history.” :)

Just read in Lessons From The Climate Anxiety Counseling Booth by Kate Schapira:

“…the truth that all of us are parts of nature affecting one another matters profoundly. It reminds us that ALL landscapes, ALL ecosystems, are worth tending to and caring for – not just those that are ‘pristine’ or lush or used recreationally by wealthy people.”

Thanks for the post. It resonated. I don't feel conflicted by my gratitude though. I think the less fortunate if you could ask them generally would say, just do it, don't worry, you need it and you're lucky enough to be able to have it / experience it, your pity won't change that, and assuming whatever it is you are grateful for is sustainable, they'd be right.

I love the concluding thoughts. From my experience, gratitude and compassion go hand in hand.

The more grateful you are for the little things in life that bring you joy, the more compassion you feel for those who are deprived of those joys.

But I don’t ever feel guilt for enjoying life. Just wish I could do more to spread the joy.

Thanks, Rupal. :) Hopefully we can find new ways to spread the joy.

Great article. I also think it helps to reframe “gratitude” as “appreciation”. Sounds more neutral as gratitude implies there’s someone or something that you owe it to?

Oooh i love this perspective Sue, i like the lack of owning in appreciation. But then i guess in gratitude for the earth, perhaps we do owe it something, to take care of it?
