We'd all go mad if we'd only focus on the negative aspects, as much as we'd want to stay in touch with what's going on in the world.
I have been squinting at the apocalypse lately. It's the only way I manage to keep my head above water. I read the headlines and listen to radio updates, just to know what's going on, but I don't watch the news on repeat, avoid social media, and refuse to wallow in discussions about how awful the world is these days. Instead, I prefer to read thoughtful, considered essays, like yours and so many others, on Substack. Thanks, Isabelle.
This is the way to be. I am a believer in this idea that if I need to know about something big going on, someone is going to tell me about it!! I find much more value in substack too . :) Thanks Jess! <3
Thank you dear Isabelle for these words of sanity for an American who is attempting to cope with the seeming hopeless mess of my country. I do walk with my dog and that helps. But for me the place to be is my garden! Spring is arriving quite early this year and I'll make the most of it planting flowers for the insects. Your writing inspires me to look again and with more attention to the the important things.
Wishing you much much much sanity for life in America right now. I love to hear how you spend time in your garden, theres so much actvism we can do in our small patches of land we have access to. :) Thank you Jeanette.
This is so relatable and so insightful - a really grounding article to start the week. It feels like we need to give ourselves permission to live our lives for ourselves. I also have to get outside and walk and walk, immersing myself in nature to remember the world's raw beauty - nothing else matches the effect of that for me. Thanks Isabelle.
Joy and hope and love are all forms of resistance against the tsunami. I hope you are revelling in all those emotions. We shall not be defeated!
Yesssss!! Sending you my love!!!
